The aim of the NHS is to put patients at the heart of the service and make them partners in their own care.
At 55degrees we worked with Consumer Focus Scotland and representatives from across the NHS to create a resource that would ensure best use of NHS resources and support accessible healthcare for all. Many people with low literacy levels and people whose first language is not English do not always understand how to use NHS services. This can mean that people do not get the treatment they need when they need it.
The resource was developed through extensive consultation with a 22-strong steering group of professionals from across the NHS. This has ensured that the resource is accurate in the information that it gives about Healthcare across a large geography.
Importantly the resource has been extensively user tested with members of the target communities – this ensures not only accuracy of translation, but also cultural consonance.
55degrees was the lead supplier for all key stages of the development of this major communication: from testing the business case, through researching and writing the content, designing the look and feel, filming and producing the DVD, building the website and undertaking extensive user testing. We also delivered the national marketing and communications strategy.
